Maura Drinkert is a Michigan-based music educator and composer. She specializes in early childhood and elementary general music. On the composition side, Maura loves writing for any instrumentation, and has taken a recent interest in programming/coding as a means to creating music. Maura is passionate about expanding the world of composition/improvisation, whether in the classroom or challenging herself through her own works. She has recently gotten to put this philosophy into practice as a mentor for the Young Composers of Michigan.
Maura received her double bachelor's in music education and composition through Michigan State University (Go Green!) She'll be working towards her Master's and her GIML early childhood/elementary general music certifications in the near future. Maura currently teaches elementary music and STEM!
Maura has had the honor of working with many notable groups, including GRAMMY-winning groups Sō Percussion and Time for Three, the SPLICE Ensemble, Ensemble Decipher, and the MSU Symphony Orchestra. Her music has been performed/featured across different high schools, the WMU Dalton Center for Performing Arts, the MSU College of Music, the Wharton Center, the Rhizome in DC, and WKAR.
Most recently, Maura organized the "Mixer for Music Educators and Composers" at the 2026 Michigan Music Conference, where musicians could learn from experienced teachers and composers about networking, the collaboration/consortium process, and other possibilities for inviting composers into classrooms. In the future, Maura hopes to continue researching and broadening the overlap between music education and composition, while inspiring young creatives.
